A visit to the Spa is one of most blissful experience you can have after a hectic week. But if it’s your debut visit you might turn all fidgety not knowing what to expect. Here is a beginner’s guide on spa etiquette in India, that can be used in such situations so that you can make the most out of your spa appointment.

1. Arrive on time

If you are late, you lose precious time from your appointment, since spas cannot push back your appointment time. Moreover, if you arrive early you get to enjoy the luscious lounges with exotic herbal tea that most spas possess.

2. Cancellation

Get to know the cancellation policies well in advance and give as much notice as you can if you want to change your bookings.

3. Silence

Switch off your mobile phones or keep it in flight mode while at the spa. You are there to forget everything and relax, so a few hours off your phone will only help you.

4. Communicate

Meet your masseuse in advance and let them know if you have any medical problems or physical issues. During the massage, tell your therapist if you are not feeling comfortable with something.

5. Your Therapist

Spas usually accommodate guests’ choices in this regard. If you book in advance, you will definitely be able to book your favourite therapist for your appointment.

6. Privacy

Nudity is a concern for many when they think about visiting a spa. You need to undress only to that extent where you feel comfortable. After All being comfortable is the first step to achieve relaxation. Most spas provide you with disposable undergarments to wear when you are in the spa and take efforts to maintain guest modesty.

7. Food

Make sure that you take your meals at least two hours before your spa appointment. The therapist works on your body to activate blood circulation; and so the the desired effect can be seen only if you have your meals couple of hours prior to the appointment.

8. Tipping

Most of the spas in India do not encourage tipping. But if you are truly happy with the service and want to show your gratitude towards the therapist, you can leave a tip of 10-20%.

9. What not to take

It is better to leave your valuables at home before turning up at the spa. If at all you couldn’t, ask the spa manager if they have locker facilities.
